Africa Sets the Stage for Nuclear Energy Investment with 2026 Kigali Summit.

3 February 2026
Kigali, Rwanda

Mobilising investment into nuclear energy will take centre stage in Kigali in May 2026, as government leaders, financiers and industry executives convene for the Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa (NEISA).The Summit will convene Heads of Government, policymakers, investors and industry leaders together to move nuclear projects from policy ambition toward investable reality, supporting industrial growth and long-term energy security.

The second edition of the Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa (NEISA) will be held from 18–21 May 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda. NEISA 2026 builds on the inaugural Summit’s outcomes and is designed to address key barriers to nuclear energy project development in Africa, including financing constraints, risk allocation, regulatory readiness and workforce capacity.

As African countries pursue industrialisation and climate-resilient growth, nuclear energy is increasingly recognised as a strategic solution to support large-scale industrial activity, strengthening energy security and complementing renewable energy systems, this summit convened under the theme “Powering Africa’s Future: Turning Nuclear Energy Ambition into Investable Reality” will therefore, focus on collaborative approaches to overcoming financial and institutional barriers, including the development of financing and investment models aligned with Africa’s development objectives.

“Africa’s nuclear future will be shaped not by ambition alone, but by alignment—between governments, investors, regulators, and industry,” said Dr Lassina Zerbo, Chairman of the Rwanda Atomic Energy Board. “NEISA 2026 is designed to create that alignment and accelerate the transition from feasibility to implementation.”

The program will include high-level Head of Government & Ministerial dialogues, capital and risk roundtables, regulatory and technical sessions, and industry-focused discussions aimed at strengthening project readiness, financing frameworks and institutional coordination.

The Summit is organised by the Rwanda Atomic Energy Board in collaboration with leading international and regional partners, including the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the Nuclear Energy Agency, the World Nuclear Association, World Nuclear Exhibition and regional financial institutions, ensuring that discussions are informed by global experience while grounded in African priorities.
